Liu Shih Tung
The juxtaposition of image destruction and reassembly

Shih-Tung Liu was born in 1970 in Miaoli, Taiwan. He received his MFA from the Department of Fine Arts at the Taipei National University of the Arts. Liu won the New York Art Creativity Award from the Asian Cultural Council Taipei Office in 1998. Recommended by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government, Liu was the resident artist at the Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea in 2001. In 2010, he also went to 18th Street Art Center for residency with the support of Ministry of Culture, and got funding from Asian Cultural Council for residency in Morishita, Tokyo, in 2010.


In his early phase, Liu specialized in image creation and landscape art. He started to create experimental large-scale installations in the 90s to see possibilities in his own works. He uses various visuals and media, and experiments in image destructions and reassemblies, which is the character of his collages in recent years.
